-a^n
values when a = 3 and n = 2,3,4, and 5

-(3)^2 = -9

-(3)^3 = -27

-(3)^4 = -81

-(3)^5=-243
----------------------------------- other expression

(-a)^n
value when a = 3 and n = 2,3,4, and 5

(-3)^2=9

(-3)^3=-27

(-3)^4=81

(-3)^5=-243

-(a)^n \\eq (-a)^n the two expressions only have the same value when n is an odd number. One expression is the opposite of the results of a raised to the power of n and the other is the opposite of a being raised to the power of n... what is in bold happens 1st in the order of operations
