Since improper fractions always need to be converted, how do I convert 7/3 into a mixed fraction?

Whenever you have a problem like this take the denominator in this case , 3 see how many times the numerator, 7 goes into the denominator. 3,6 it can't go anymore without going over 7 so you'd have 2 wholes and now you wil subtract 7-6 equals 1 so it's gonna be 2 1/4

it should be 2 1/3 because 7 goes into 3 twice (2 times) and 2*3=6 and 7-6=1 so that is how you get the answer.
