The answer would be B: 4.34 pounds because then if it is measuring to the nearest tenth then 4.34 pound would change to 4.30 pounds and that would make it the lowest because the rest would round up .

Answer:

The answer is packet B.

Explanation:

Packet A: 4.42 pounds rounded off as 4.4 pounds.

Packet B: 4.34 pounds rounded off as 4.3 pounds.

Packet C: 4.44 pounds rounded off as 4.4 pounds.

Packet D: 4.39 pounds rounded off as 4.4 pounds.

So, comparing all the values, we can see that packet B is the lightest.

While rounding to tenth, we will keep in ind that if the hundredth digit is less than 5, the tenth digit remains unchanged. If the digit is 5 and greater than 5, then the tenth digit increases by 1. Like in 4.39 pounds. 9 is greater than 5, so it rounded off to 4.4.

So, if Sue weighs each packet on her scale, the lightest reading will be 4.3 pounds.
