Why was Jefferson election so important

At the first peaceful transition of politcal power between opposing parties in U.S history, the election had far-reaching significance. Jefferson appreciated the movement change and his inaugural address called for reconciliation by declaring that,"We tare all Republicans, We are all Federalists."
