How do you find the sum of -5 - (-8)?

since two negatives equal a positive, you can re arrange the problem like this

-5 +8 Then you do the actual math to get an answer of 3

If your having trouble with the math portion of it, I like to think of it as making the double negative into a positive, then subtracting the 5 from the 8.. this doesn't work with all problems though :)
