x = monthly salary
x - (1/3x + 1/8x) = 923
x - (8/24x + 3/24x) = 923
x - 11/24x = 923
24/24x - 11/24x = 923
13/24x = 923
x = 923 / (13/24)
x = 923 * 24/13
x = 22152 / 13
x = 1704 <===
