Henry Hudson (1565-1611) was an English explorer accepted the invitation of the Dutch to explore new routes and they funded him in 1609 under the patronage of the Dutch East India Company. He wanted to discover a north route to Asia, heading north of Russia. When facing thick Ice he decided to continue west to find another passage. He crossed the Atlantic to arrive at Nova Scotia and then to the Chesapeake Bay. Finally, he explored the New York Harbor.
