Explain in terms of Newton's third law why someone who tries to jump from a canoe to a river may fall into the water

Every action has an equal, opposite reaction. So if you push off of the canoe, the boat is going to push away. Which, is going to make the boat obviously farther away, and most likely fall into the water.
