A monologue, often used in theater or entertainment is a speech given by a single character. The speaker presents his or her thoughts aloud. In modern television, some talk show hosts start their programs with a monologue that may be humorous or political in nature. A monologue is used when characters are not speaking to one another and often times addresses the audience directly.
