we know that

the original price is
\$85.79

The original price represent the
100\%

so

1) First discount of
10\%

Find the new price 1

\$85.79*(1-0.10)=\$77.21

2) Second successive discount of
5\%

Find the new price 2

\$77.21*(1-0.05)=\$73.35

3) Find by proportion the total percentage of discount

(100)/(85.79) (\%)/(\$) =(x)/(73.35) (\%)/(\$) \\ \\x=100*73.35/85.79 \\ \\x=85.5 \%

therefore

the answer is the option D

85.5 \%
