It was not true that treaties with the Native Americans provided them safe crossing across the prairie.

The life of a Cowboy had advantages and disadvantages but we can say it was not an easy one. They wanted freedom and independence but the price to pay was lonely and harsh living conditions. Indians always felt that intromission was incorrect and they defended its territories, so it was not easy or safe for white Americans to cross the prairie.
