How did the Catholic Church respond to the ninety five theses

The Catholic Church condemned the list and asked the writer to recant it.

In 1517, Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses to the door of All Saints' Church in Wittenberg, Germany.

The Catholic Church declared Luther's theses to be heretical. Since Luther did not retract his positions, he was excommunicated.

Whi his ninety five theses, Luther questioned the Catholic Church's sale of indulgences to reduce punishment in Purgatory for sins and claimed that faith led to salvation.

The Catholic Church "arrested" Luther and held a court trial against him, telling him to withdraw his thesis.
