Blood supplies oxygen to cells to perform cellular respiration. Haemoglobin carries oxygen in the blood.Any change in the structure of hemoglobin will affect its oxygen carrying capacity. Mutation of genes coding for hemoglobin will result in a different hemoglobin which will fail to supply oxygen properly. Hence patients needs blood transfusion to maintain oxygen supply.
