Why does the word antibiotic suggest that these medications would be ineffective against viruses?

Answer:

The word bio in the word antibiotic suggests that antibiotics kill living things. Viruses have genetic information, but they don’t have cells. They don’t fully meet the definition of being alive.

Because the word antibiotics are formed from "anti-" which means to fight and "-biotic" which means living organism.
A virus is not a living organism because it doesn't have any organelle and doesn't do any of reaction that needed to sustain life. Therefore virus doesn't need calorie to keep living. They just need to invade other cells then hijack the cells.
