so, let's say he scored "a" points in his first game. and "b" on the second.

his second game's score "b", and it was 35 fewer points, so is b=a - 35.

we also know that the total score for both games was 395, thus


\bf \begin{cases} a+\boxed{b}=395\\ a+\boxed{a-35}=395 \end{cases} \\\\\\ 2a-35=395\implies 2a=395+35\implies 2a=430\implies a=\cfrac{430}{2} \\\\\\ a=215
