How did most medieval art depict people in the middle ages

I'd say most medieval art depicted people to appear more realistic, Individual emotional expression just wasn't an important element before that time in the European visual artistic idiom. During the Renaissance period the transition from a more iconic, conceptual representation tied to the platonic idealism which was the norm in Byzantine art- which is a type of art in the medieval times
