Distribute the 3 across the -8 and -4c.
3(-8 - 4c) = 3(-8) + 3(-4c) = -24 - 12c
So, -24 - 12c is the simplified form.

you distribute the 3 to everything inside the parenthesis
3( - 8 - 4c) = -24-4c
-24 - 4c
then you move -4c to the "other side of the equal sign
-24 = 4c
divide by 4 on both sides (isolate the variable)
-24/4 = 4/4c
- 6 = c
c = -6
hope this helps
