2(3x - 4) = 5x + 6
6x - 8 = 5x + 6
6x - 5x = 6 + 8
x = 14 <==

First, you would distribute 2 into the parentheses so you would have 6x-8= 5x+6. Subtract 5x from both sides so you have x-8=6. Finally, add 8 to both sides which leaves you with x= 14
