x and y are variables

remember, you can do anything to an equaiton as long as you do it to both sides

5x+7y=35
add -5x to both sides
-5x+5x+7y=35-5x
0x+7y=35-5x
7y=35-5x
divide both sides by 7

(7y)/(7)=(35-5x)/(7)

((7)/(7))y=((35)/(7))+((-5x)/(7))

(1)y=(5)-(5x)/(7)

y=(-5x)/(7)+5

y=(-5/7)x+5

Subtract 5x over to the right side to isolate y. then divide everything by 7. Hope this helps
