Add 35 + (-14).
How do I solve this?

Answer:

21

Explanation:

They cancel each other out! An easy but long way is to put down 35 open circles. Then under it draw 14 filled in circles. CROSS OUT the open circles that line up with the closed circles. Count the rest of the dots that are left.

Or simply do 35 - 14 ^w^

Hi, your answer here is 21. Problems like this can look confusing because they deal with negative numbers and multiple operation symbols, but the question is basically telling you to "add negative 14 to 35," which means the exact same thing as "subtract 14 from 35." We can rewrite the problem as 35 - 14, which gives us 21.

Hope this makes things a bit clearer. Have a great day! - Mani :)
