If we have 2+1/4 for a batch and want 2/3rds of that, we multiply (2+1/4) by 1/3 to get 2/3+1/12 (we can just multiply the denominator by 3 to divide by 1/3) = 8/12+1/12=9/12=3/4 ( we get 8/12 by figuring out that 12/3 =4 so we multiply 2/3 by 4/4). Since we need 2/3rds, we then multiply 3/4 by 2 to get 6/3 or 3/2.

Answer:

Alaina will require 1.5 cups of flour to make
(2)/(3) batches of cookies.

Explanation:

We are given the following information in the question:

Amount of flour required per batch of cookies =

2\displaystyle(1)/(4)\text{ cups}

Number of batches of cookies Alaina wants to make =
\displaystyle(2)/(3)

Formula:

\text{Flour required} = \text{Flour required to make 1 batch of cookies}* \text{Number of batches}\\\\=2 \displaystyle(1)/(4)* (2)/(3)\\\\= (9)/(4)* (2)/(3) = (3)/(2) = 1.5\text{ cups of flour}

Hence, Alaina will require 1.5 cups of flour to make
(2)/(3) batches of cookies.
