imagine a big solid and you cut out that one piece
the big solid is 9 by 12 by 3+4 (LWH)
so the volume is 9*12*7=756 cubic cm

the small slolid is 6 by 4 by 12 or 288 cubic cm

big-small=756-288=468 cubic cm

the volume is 468 cubic cm
