King John of England used the Magna Carta to quell some rebellious barons. From there, the Glorious Revolution in 1688-1689 resulted in William III (William of Orange) and Mark II ascending to the English throne which realigned power - giving the monarchy limited power and Parliament gaining power over the monarchy with the English Bill of Rights.
