The difference between a number and 12 is 20

Okay so we know difference means to subtract, and we know by saying "a number" they mean the value is unknown. Since idk if you have to use a specific variable for this problem, I'll use n as an example. So it's basically saying we're subtracting 12 from an unknown number and that it'll equal 20. So the equation would be n-12=20.
