The absolute value of any number will always be a positive number. That is the definition of an absolute value. It is usually denoted by the || bar. For example, when you want to find the sum of 1 and ⁻5, you write it as |1 + ⁻5|. Even though the actual answer is ⁻4, because it is in absolute value, you'll report it as +4 instead.
