You have to
subtract by
(1)/(3)a on
EACH of the
sides you're
working with!

(4)/(5)a + 3 - (1)/(3)a - 8 - (1)/(3)a

Which
gives us:
(7)/(15)a + 3 = -8

Now, that we got these
steps out of the way, let's
subtract
3 from the sides you're working with!

(7)/(15)a + 3 - 3 \\ = -8 -3

(7)/(15)(a) = -11

We have gotten these
steps out of the way now lets
multiply by
(15)/(7) on your
sides because, it is the
reciprocal of
(7)/(15)

So,
(15)/(7)( (7)/(15)a ) = (15)/(7) (-11)

Cancel out:
(15)/(7)( (7)/(15) ) because, it equals to:
1

(15)/(7)(-11) = (-165)/(7)

Therefore, your
answer is:
(-165)/(7)
aka
23(4)/(7)

Good luck on your assignment and enjoy your day
