Europe kind of stagnated while the Islamic world prospered. The European world focused on religion and spreading Christianity and all art was based around Christianity. On the other hand, the Islamic world became the cultural and scientific capital of the world because they started translating all works of science and art into Arabic languages, which resulted in numerous scholars living and working in various Islamic pieces of land.
