In the given question 14,

There are 4 squares and 4 right triangles in the diagram.

The area of right triangle is determined by,


A_1=(1)/(2)* b* h

Here , b is the base of the right triangle and h is the height of the triangle.

The area of sqaure is ,


A_2=(side)^2

From the diagram, the side of square is 1 inch and base and height is also inch.

Substitute the values in the formula of triangle ,


A_1=(1)/(2)*1*1
A_1=0.5in^2

The area of 4 right triangles is ,


A^(\prime)=4*0.5=2in^2_{}

Substitute the value in the formula of square,


A_2=(1)^2

The area of 4 square is,


A^(\doubleprime)=4*1=4in^2

The area of the figure obtained is ,

The sum of area of 4 square and area of 4 triangle.
