Given :

x = 90 - x + 50

2x = 140

Two angles are complementary when they add up to 90 degrees

smaller angle = x
larger angle = x + 50

x + x + 50 = 90
2x + 90 - 50
2x = 40
x = 40/2
x = 20° ← smaller angle
