How do I isolate a variable when it is on both sides of an equation?

Step 1) Identify the variable.
Step 2) Add/subtract whole number so they're all on one side.
Step 3) Add/subtract variables so they're all on one side.
Step 4) Multiply/divide to get the variable by itself.
Step 5) Check your work.☺
