One of the ironies I remember most from "Subha" is the meaning on the name from the main character herself. which is the name Subha which ironically short for the full name is Subhashini which translates to the meaning of "the one who can speak well" although she was born a mute and continued to be a mute her whole life.

The ironies found in "Subha" is the character herself, because her name itself is the opposite of who she is. Subha is "a young woman who is mute" and "her name means sweetly speaking". Which causes irony that she can't speak though her name means she speaks sweetly. Also, when the two were married, they married on a very lucky day. "The marriage took place on an auspicious day", but the marriage fell apart and he married a woman that could speak.
