The typical Western orchestra consists of four groups of related musical instruments: strings, bass, percussion, and woodwinds. Woodwinds, included in the general category if wind instruments, has two main types: flutes and reed instruments (also called as reed pipes). The way in which they produce their sound is what makes these instruments different from other wind instruments.
