we know that

the perimeter of a rectangle is equal to

P=2x+2y

where

x--------> is the length side of the room

y--------> is the width side of the room

In this problem we have

x=10(9)/(12)\ ft\\ \\y=8(1)/(2)\ ft

Convert mixed number to an improper fractions

x=10(9)/(12)\ ft=(10*12+9)/(12)=(129)/(12)\ ft

y=8(1)/(2)\ ft=(8*2+1)/(2)=(17)/(2)\ ft

substitute the values in the formula of perimeter

P=2((129)/(12))+2((17)/(2))

P=((129)/(6))+17

P=(21.5+17)\ ft

P=38.5\ ft

P=38 (1)/(2)\ ft

therefore

the answer is

38 (1)/(2)\ ft
