distributive property lets you multiply the sum by multiplying each addend separately and then add the products

The distributive property is used to make multiplying easier by multiplying the number outside of the parentheses by each of the numbers inside and adding them.
For example: 6(2+5). You would multiply 6 by 2, then 6 by 5, and add them up.
