remember you can do anything to an equation as long as you do it to both sides

17-9x=-3+16x
add 9x to both sides
17=-3+25x
add 3 to both sides
20=25x
divide both sides by 25

(20)/(25)=x

(4)/(5)=x

x=(4)/(5)
