The distance between two points (x₁, y₁) and (x₂, y₂) is

d= \sqrt{(x_(2) -x_(1))^(2) + (y_(2)-y_(1))^(2)}

Therefore the distance between (-5,1) and (-2, 3) is

\sqrt{(-2+5)^(2) + (3-1)^(2)} =3.6056

Answer: 3.61 (nearest hundredth)
