Rudi got cut from track team tryouts and she is very distraught. She worked very hard to make it through several days of tryouts and now she has come to you to vent her frustrations. Using concepts of humanism, how would you respond to Rudi as she talks to you?

Answer:

I would validate her feelings but also give her a different perspective to look at this setback as. I would tell her that it's not the end of the world and if she really wants to play this sport, now would not be the time to give up. This setback could make her a much stronger athlete and even if she doesn't make it to major leagues when she's older, she'll still have many skills and memories to take with her through the rest of her life journey.

Try to suggest that just because, she got cut from the from track team tryouts, that this doesn't mean that this is the end for her (sport wise) tell her that this may mean that she is not ready for those hard competitions and that she should spend time this year working on her skills and places where she may be weak at so she can come back stronger and be the greatest she can be.
