What incident set off the taft–roosevelt feud?

I believe it was because William H. Taft simply refused to accept the Progressive Movement. Theodore Roosevelt simply believed his platform "New Nationalism" was far more representative than Taft's. Roosevelt refused to accept the nomination of Taft as the republican candidate causing them to split.
