They did initially subjugate American Indians, yet three things put a stop to it. In the first place, the Indians were all withering of plague ailments, which Africans had just been presented to. Second, the Indians, being local, had a superior information of the land and its people groups, which influenced escape/to revolt endeavors more prone to be fruitful. Third, because of open deliberations about Spain and Portugal's treatment of indigenous individuals, the pope issued a bull in 1531 that restricted the oppression of American Indians.
