2 1/3 + 3 1/4 = 5 7/12

1. First, you have to find a common denominator... 12
- 3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15...
- 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20...
- Both have an LCM as 12, so that is the common denominator.

2. Second, you make the fractions equivalent to when the denominator is 12...
- 1/3 x 4 = 4/12
- 1/4 x 3 = 3/12

3. Lastly, add...
- 2 4/12 + 3 3/12 = 5 7/12

Hope this helped! :)

first you make them into improper fractions

2 1/3 = 3 + 3 + 1 /3 = 7/3
3 1/4 = 4 + 4 + 4 + 1 /4 = 13/4

Then you make a common denominator

7/3 + 13/4 = x/12 + y/12

13 x 3 = x, and 7 x 4 = y ( do cross multiplication)

39/12 + 28/12 = 67/12 ( answer in improper fraction)

67/12 = 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 7

5 7/12 is your answer in mixed fraction

hope this helps
