ANSWER :

x = 8

EXPLANATION :

The first number is x

The second number is 9 more than x which is (x + 9)

The product of these numbers is 136

The equation will be :

\begin{gathered} x(x+9)=136 \\ x^2+9x=136 \\ x^2+9x-136=0 \\ \text{ Factor completely :} \\ (x+17)(x-8)=0 \end{gathered}

The values of x are :

x + 17 = 0

x = -17

x - 8 = 0

x = 8

Since we are looking for the positive value of x, it will be x = 8
