In order to calculate this, We need to make sure that both measurements have the same denominator, so we need to transform 3/4 into a fraction with denominator of 8

1 3/4 >>> 1 6/8 ( the 6 comes from 8/4 x 3)

The total material that jane need would be:

2 5/8 + 1 6/8

= 3 11/8

= 4 3/8

The answer is option D,
