The limit is -1 (the y-coordinate of the point (3, -1)).

"From the left" means you think about values of x that are LESS than 3. Move along the graph from left-to-right. As you get closer to 3 (approaching from the left), the values of y get smaller and smaller, getting closer and closer to -1.

The fact that the value of y does not actually reach -1 is not important. The LIMIT is -1.
