It's any form of depth or distance on a respectful plane. The space between point A and point B can be measured and can be used to create really accurate representations of depth, distance, and size.
Depending on your artistic style and what you're creating, space can be measured on a XYZ axis graph.

Space is an area that an artist provides for a particular purpose. Space includes the background, foreground and middle ground, and refers to the distances or area(s) around, between, and within things. There are two kinds of space: negative spaceand positive space.
