How can the word form of a fraction help you write the fraction as a decimal?

Fractions can be written in decimal form. For example, when the fraction is 5/4, it is read as 'five-fourths'. To find it's decimal form, you just have to divide the numerator 5 by the denominator 4. With the help of the calculator, you would get a decimal form of the answer which is 1.25.

Fractions can be said and written in word form. To get the word form of a faction you should write the numerator (the top number), add a hyphen and then spell out the denominator (the bottom number).
The word form of the fraction 5/10 for example is five-tenths.
This word form can help us to write the decimal number which represents the faction : the tenths tells us on which place after the decimal point the value should be written, and the value is 5. So, the decimal number of 5/10 is 0.5.
Tenths corresponds to the first place after the decimal point, hundreds to the second place after the point, thousands to the third place...
