We would start by removing 6 from both sides of the equation. We do this because it gets rid of the 6 on the right and it isolates the d so we can figure out what it is.
Then we end up with 36=-2d.
Now we divide 36 by -2, and we get -18.

d=-18

42=-2d+6

Here, to find d, you need to separate it on one side.
First, subtract 6 from both sides.

42-6 = -2d + 6 - 6
36 = -2d

Now divide both sides by -2.

36/-2 = -2/-2d
-18 = d

The answer to this problem is -18, or d = -18.
