22.4 divided by 2 = 11.2

11.2 - 8.3 = 2.9 is the width

Let

x-------> the length of the rectangle

y------> the width of the rectangle

we know that

the perimeter of a rectangle is equal to

P=2x+2y

In this problem we have

x=8.3\ cm\\P=22.4\ cm

substitute in the formula

22.4=2*8.3+2y

Divide by
2 both sides

11.2=8.3+y

Solve for y

y=11.2-8.3

y=2.9\ cm

therefore

the answer is

2.9\ cm
