Elective procedures are procedures done by choice by the patient, and on numerous occasions are not done to the point where they are correcting, an immediate life threat (although sometimes this is the case and is called a semi-elective procedure).

An emergency life threat where a patient is usually uncouncious and in full code and has no other option or even allowed to have an option is called an emergency procedure. This is almost exclusively done immediately or in the few hours that a patient is brought into the emergency rokm, or a life threat is present.
