How did geography influence the way the english colonies developed?

In the South the geographical landscape allowed the slave owners to earn more wealth by making their slave plant a vast area of land, as there were natural barriers between them and the center it was easy for them to expand their territories and cherished more freedom than of those who lived near the government.
