When the moon blocks out the sun, the warmth of the sun is penetrating the moon which is in it's tunnel vision rather than earth. The temperature slowly decreases as the sun's warmth is focusing on the moons path. Usually the temperature change isn't big enough to harm earth life, but organisms can sense these changes.
